The DGES WORLD FAMOUS FOOTY TIPPING COMP had an encounter with a former AFL superstar last weekend.

Your tipsmaster was invited to a fundraiser ball for the Condon family.

The Condons are a local family who are heavily involved in the Strathmore Football and Cricket Club and they are great community members.

Liz Condon, wife of Wayne and mother of 12 year old Jack and 10 year old Tom, lost her two year battle with cancer earlier this year.

The fundraiser ball in Liz’ memory was a great night and a who’s-who of the sporting world were in attendance. Wayne Condon has been involved behind the scenes with many AFL clubs, hence – guests at the ball included Dale Weightman, Neil Daniher, Dean Bailey, Simon Atkins (and several other Poor ol’ Footscray players whom I recognised but couldn’t name and couldn’t give a stuff about…you know how much I love poor ol’ Footscray), Mathew (Spider) Burton, Neil Jordon, Col Gray…just to name a few.

There was heaps of sporting memorabilia auctioned and many raffles on the night to raise money for the cause.

DGES donated a tool box for one of the raffles and I’m thrilled to announce that the tool box prize was won by no other than AFL Freo and North “legend”, Spider Burton!

Spider was no doubt the W.T.H (World’s Tallest Human) in the room and after consulting him about the W.T.T.B (World’s Tallest Tool Box), he was quite looking forward to attempting to lie down in it…

Also spotted this week, Jason ‘Windowlicker’ Winderlich talking to Scott ‘Camp-oh’ Camporeale in the aftermath of the Barry Hall incident.

Apparently the window-licker was interviewed by Zoo magazine the previous week and asked whether he would prefer to get a leg injury, or be punched in the face by Barry Hall. He chose to take the Hall punch. Not a very smart choice, in hindsight…

There I was, sitting in the excellent Red ‘n Black Spot Cafe in Fletcher St, Essendon this morning, when who should walk in but star Essendon defender, Dustin Fletcher.

I was on my way out. He was on his way in.

I looked at him. He looked at me. I looked at him again.

Do you think I had the balls to ask him for the $30 for his old man’s bounced cheque from 20 years ago?

Nope.

‘Good luck tonight, mate,’ was all I could muster.

‘Thanks very much mate,’ he replied, pleasantly.

Almost as bad as the day we saw the Crows get off their team bus and decided we would walk through the middle of them and jostle Tony Modra. Until we saw how big he was up close.
