DGES W.F.F.T.C BRUSH WITH FAME

The DGES WORLD FAMOUS FOOTY TIPPING COMP had an encounter with a former AFL superstar last weekend.

Your tipsmaster was invited to a fundraiser ball for the Condon family.

The Condons are a local family who are heavily involved in the Strathmore Football and Cricket Club and they are great community members.

Liz Condon, wife of Wayne and mother of 12 year old Jack and 10 year old Tom, lost her two year battle with cancer earlier this year.

The fundraiser ball in Liz’ memory was a great night and a who’s-who of the sporting world were in attendance. Wayne Condon has been involved behind the scenes with many AFL clubs, hence – guests at the ball included Dale Weightman, Neil Daniher, Dean Bailey, Simon Atkins (and several other Poor ol’ Footscray players whom I recognised but couldn’t name and couldn’t give a stuff about…you know how much I love poor ol’ Footscray),  Mathew (Spider) Burton, Neil Jordon, Col Gray…just to name a few.

There was heaps of sporting memorabilia auctioned and many raffles on the night to raise money for the cause.

DGES donated a tool box for one of the raffles and I’m thrilled to announce that the tool box prize was won by no other than AFL Freo and North “legend”, Spider Burton!

Spider was no doubt the W.T.H (World’s Tallest Human) in the room and after consulting him about the W.T.T.B (World’s Tallest Tool Box), he was quite looking forward to attempting to lie down in it…

  1. Spider goes to my gym. He’s always got a smile on his face and seems pretty friendly. I suppose that will all come to an end once he finds out that the tool box donated by DGES is WW2 vintage and is comprised mainly of spanners and screwdrivers that tradies have accidently left on the counter over the years.

I wonder if Spider knows anything about rust?
